Sir John De Hardy, Lord Mayor of London, England, thus gave the future Hardys of this Union claim to "Royal Blood", no matter how distant and diluted. ("Our Fathers Fields" by James Everett Kibbler, 1998 A Southern Story) Sir John was an Alderman of Aldersgate and Farrington between 1524-1528 in London. He was Sheriff of London, England in 1527-1528. He was a Citizen and Haberdasher, also Master of the Guild, (which later became Free Masonry), in 1528-1529 in London, England. He signed his will on October 7, 1540, in London, England. The reason for his death in 1543 was poisoning. He was married to Lady Mary De Stanley, daughter of George De Stanley and Baroness Joan De Strange. Lady Mary De Stanley's ancestry includes Lords, Ladies, the Duke of Earland of Westmoreland. Through their parentage on the Distaff side, the Hardys could thus trace their lineage to King Edward.
