The picture above was taken at Meadow Brook Farm the home of B. R. Markham and his family, located at Lowry, Virginia. My grandfather Walter Markham pictured here was fourteen at the time. This cattle drive was an event which took place once a year in the month of September. The cattle would be driven to the cattle market in Roanoke, Virginia, stopping at Blue Ridge on the first night of the two day trip to rest, feed, and water the cattle.
